The FEBEA publishes the Water saving plan for the cosmetics sector

In line with the measures set out in the 2023 Water Plan, the FEBEA has drawn up a Water Saving Plan for the cosmetic sector. The aim is to draw up an inventory of water use and waste by companies in the sector, and to draw up an overview of the efforts already made by companies, identifying the obstacles and levers for further progress.

“In a context of increasing constraints, water has become an issue of industrial performance, environmental sustainability and CSR. The issue of water is particularly important for the cosmetics sector, since this resource is found throughout the life cycle of products, from the ingredients required to their use, including of course the production phase,” introduces Emmanuel Guichard, General Delegate of the FEBEA, in the editorial of this document.

As part of the Water Plan published by the French Government in March 2023, the cosmetics industry wanted to make a greater commitment and contribute to the national objective of reducing water consumption by 10% by 2030.
In this sense, this water efficiency plan, drawn up voluntarily by the sector, is in line with the guide to good practice in the sector in terms of water efficiency published by the FEBEA in 2024.

Developing industrial equipment that consumes less water, adapting formulas (particularly solid products) to reduce the water footprint, reusing process water - these are just some of the efforts being made by cosmetics companies to improve their water efficiency.
