This new logo will be mandatory as from January 1, 2015. But it is not too early to get ready: the logo is intended to help consumers identify recyclable packaging subject to sorting instructions, and will thus concern cosmetic packaging – more precisely several parts of packages. Virginie d’Enfert and Nathalie Delangle, of FEBEA (French Federation of Beauty Companies), made an update on the topic and gave very practical labelling instructions at the Beyond Beauty show last September 11, 2013.

It was to appear on labels from January 1, 2014. In the end the Triman logo, which is intended to harmonize the recycling marking of the various products placed on the market and give consumers sorting instructions, will only be mandatory as from January 1, 2015.

This common mark should:
• simplify citizens’ sorting habits by indicating which products are recyclable,
• contribute to increasing the efficacy of separated collection and recycling.
In practice, it will take the shape of a new logo called Triman.

The mark

It represents a silhouette from which three arrows are shot, the whole being circled by another round arrow. The mark was designed – and tested with consumers by the ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency – to be easily understood by everyone.

The human silhouette embodies the citizen’s action, and it is turned towards the right, towards the future.
The three arrows shot towards the outside symbolize sorting.
The round arrow stands for recycling.

Who is concerned?

Triman is a French provision approved by the European Commission which other countries could emulate, although no harmonisation is currently planned among the various national initiatives.
In France, all products concerned will be required …
