On 16 December 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on the Austria’s proposal for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of Aminomethyl Propanol, a buffering agent. This consultation is open until 14 February 2025.
2-amino-2-methylpropanol (CAS No.124-68-5, EC No.204-709-8, INCI: Aminomethyl Propanol) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the function: Buffering.
The substance is included in Annex III/61 of the European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, which details the conditions of use of monoalkylamines, monoalkanolamines and their salts in order to prevent nitrosation phenomena.
It is currently listed in Annex VI/603-070-00-6 of the European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications:
• Skin Irrit. 2, H315 - Causes skin irritation
• Eye Irrit. 2, H319 - Causes serious eye irritation
• Aquatic Chronic 3, H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects
