The taboo of intimate pain

Tight pants, sweating, sports… so many factors that can cause discomfort in the intimate area. And to lift the veil on these pains felt by a large part of consumers, the cosmetic brand Baûbo (which has notably launched a moisturizing cream for the vulva) has launched a large national survey in collaboration with MedFem Collective.

The “Mal à la vulve” study was conducted with a sample of 1,875 respondents.

Unpleasant, did you say unpleasant?

According to the survey, panelists report having ever felt in their vulva:
• Discomfort (98.5%)
• Irritation (96.5%)
• Tingling (76.9%)
• Intimate dryness (73.8%)
• Itching (92.3%)
• Burning (85.1%)

Respondents indicated that these manifestations were often located at the entrance to the vagina (63.3%) and on the vulva (54.5%). 13.1% added that the discomfort extended to the anal area. 40.1% explained that they experienced this phenomenon on average every month (several days).
For 8% of the panel, these pains never stop.

Multiple causes

“The link with sexuality is very strong”, explains Baûbo. “Often, the pain is correlated with or aggravated by sexual intercourse (68.8%).”

While 58.8% of respondents do not engage in certain practices, 52.7% of women feel that they have less libido.
“Others also mentioned limiting intercourse because of fear of pain, the stress generated in the partner of causing pain, the forced interruption of certain sexual relations, the fact of not being able to let go in bed and of having less frequent intercourse.”

But sexual practices are not the only culprits for intimate discomfort.
