Tuberose, or rather tuberoses, are at the heart of Guerlain’s two new Aqua Allegoria fragrances: Florabloom, eau de toilette (75 ml, €101 or 125 ml, €139; refill 200 ml, €167) and Florabloom Forte, eau de parfum (75 ml, €116 or 125 ml, €160; refill 200 ml, €192).
Guerlain has created an original blend of a tuberose pomade from Grasse obtained by enfleurage, an absolute and a CO2 extraction of Indian tuberose.
For these two creations, Guerlain is reviving enfleurage, a rare ancestral tradition which consists of capturing the fragrance of flowers in a fatty substance (the animal fat of yesteryear has been replaced by a vegetable butter, but the process, which is entirely manual, remains intact).
This revisited knowledge produces essences that are remarkably faithful to the plant: the white flower reveals its most subtle and unctuous facets. CO2 extraction, carried out for the first time in India, close to the fields, preserves the flowers and produces an extract with a fragrance very close to that of the tuberose in its natural environment. This low-temperature process is also more environmentally friendly, offering an alternative to petrochemical solvents.
