2024 European elections: a FEBEA's manifesto

With the European elections just a few weeks away, the FEBEA, which represents the cosmetics sector in France, is calling on elected and future European representatives to put forward seven proposals for preserving and developing the cosmetics industry in France and Europe.

“For the cosmetics industry, European issues are decisive. In the run-up to the European elections, the sector, represented in France by the FEBEA (Fédération des Entreprises de le Beauté), wishes to reiterate its ambition and the conditions it considers essential for the preservation of a strong and sustainable French and European cosmetics industry,” states the manifesto in its preamble.
Three priorities have been identified and set out in seven proposals.

I. Guaranteeing the sector stability in terms of standards and a harmonised framework
Proposal 1: Juggling legislative inflation to preserve the sector’s competitiveness in a demanding economic and competitive context. In practical terms, this means a pause in the production of European environmental legislation…
Proposal 2: Ensure consistency between national and European legislation in all areas, and combat over-transposition, in particular by strengthening European mechanisms for monitoring measures proposed at Member State level (such as France’s plan to make GMP certification compulsory)…
Proposal 3: Remove all non-tariff barriers between Member States and ensure consistent implementation of EU legislation, in order to move towards a fully integrated European cosmetics market, by putting an end to inconsistencies in legislation and differences in the interpretation and application …
