Cosmetics Europe launches a database of cosmetic ingredients

Cosmetics Europe lance une base de données sur les ingrédients cosmétiques

Cosmetics Europe, the association of federations representing the European cosmetics industry, has launched Cosmile Europe, an online database of cosmetic ingredients. It is intended to help consumers easily find information to answer their questions about the composition of their cosmetic products.

Reading time
~ 2 minutes

Currently available in 14 languages, this database provides information on almost 30,000 ingredients used in cosmetics. It includes information on ingredient properties, their function, whether they are man-made and/or of natural origin and in which types of products they can be found. It also adds some regulatory information.
Cosmile Europe can be searched by common ingredient names or/INCI names, or by group of substances or product type.

This Cosmetics Europe initiative has been developed in partnership with the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW), in collaboration with the French Fédération des Entreprises de la Beauté (FEBEA) and with the technological development support of health&media GmbH.

John Chave, Director General of Cosmetics Europe, said: “Cosmetics Europe is delighted to be sharing this tool with European citizens. There’s a deluge of information on cosmetics on the internet and it can be difficult to know which sources are reliable. The European cosmetics and personal care industry wants to provide European citizens with a simple way to access reliable, verified and scientifically supported information on cosmetics ingredients.”

Cosmile Europe database is available on line by following this link.
