To a third-rate Advanced Technician Certificate?

In September 2012, a newly designed Advanced Technician Certificate (BTS or Brevet de Technicien Supérieur, in French) in Aesthetics, Cosmetic, Perfumery should come in lieu of the current BTS of Cosmetic Aesthetics. Will it meet the specific needs of a business that look for trained people, more specialized in face of new competitors in the well-being sector? The answer is no, for the French National Confederation of Small Beauty Salons (CNAIB, as per its French acronym), which understands this change as a slimmed-down curriculum, a shorter theoretical training, and a risk of undermined credibility of a diploma. Thus, on February 3, the CNAIB has sent a warning, as there is the complementary risk to have dwindling members subscriptions.

The new BTS in Aesthetics, Cosmetic, Perfumery should come in lieu of the current BTS of Cosmetic Aesthetics, as soon as September 2012.

The Ministry of  National Education, against the opinion of the most involved professionals, has endorsed it by a seven to six vote, plus an abstention, during its 19th Plenary Consultative Commission. This new BTS, a bachelor’s degree +2, comprises three main parts: cosmetology, management, and brands-oriented training. 

This sector, until now, especially committed to the quality of its training and to the high qualification level of its beauticians, has always rallied against texts able to make it loose its credibility.

This is exactly what happens with this new training, especially poor and unsuited, which lowers to 180 the number of hours dedicated to the aesthetics techniques, i.e. down to a third of the current BTS (513 hours.)

This training comes with a 13-week internship, a too long period, as it is a matter of fact that, quite often, interns do only menial tasks (preparing gift boxes, receiving and checking shipments), without any connection to their training.
