Artificial intelligence at the service of physical distribution

L'intelligence artificielle au service de la distribution physique

While artificial intelligence can be frightening in some respects, it can also help save time by automating certain tasks. But can it help retail companies become more efficient? This is the question answered by the latest OpinionWay survey for Retail Tech.

To carry out this survey, 1015 people were questioned between March 27 and 28, 2024.

For 66% of respondents, AI can improve the organization of retail chains. According to the panelists, this new technology can help to:
• Optimize inventories (36%)
• Facilitate price management (28%)
• Improve supply chain management (27%)
• Detect theft and fraud (26%)
• Analyze the competition (22%)
• Make more relevant product recommendations (20%)
• Predict consumer trends (17%)
• Facilitate deliveries (15%)
• Improve staff productivity (12%)

The French also believe that artificial intelligence can have a positive impact on:
• The development of innovation (70%)
• Productivity (65%)
• Customer service (58%)
• Sustomer experience (58%)
• Sustainable development (54%)

Despite their overwhelming support for the use of artificial intelligence by physical stores, the French have certain fears. They believe that this tool could have negative consequences on employment (fewer staff recruited). They also imagine that retailers would increase the price of the products they sell in order to amortize the in-house investments required to equip themselves with connected solutions.
