On March 10, 2023, the CEW France gathered a group of professionals during its traditional Beauty Business (morning of exchanges between beauty professionals to review the figures of the industry). For the second year in a row, Aurélien Belluye, Principal at IQVIA, came to present the results of cosmetic products sales in pharmacies and parapharmacies.
IQVIA, a firm specializing in the processing of health-related data, covers three circuits:
• Pharmacies (approximately 14,000 throughout France)
• Parapharmacies
• E-pharmacies and e-parapharmacies
The French health market is worth over 40 billion euros. The hygiene and beauty sector is worth more than three billion euros with a growth of 3.4%.
Pharmacies recorded sales of 2.3 billion euros. 588 million and e-pharmacies and e-parapharmacies are in third place with 134 million.
Regardless of the distribution channel, women’s care products account for the majority of revenues. They are followed by unisex care, hygiene products, hair care, baby products and perfumes.
A “medicalized” market
Aurélien Belluye explains that 28% of consumers buy dermocosmetics for health reasons. 40% of them value the pharmacist’s advice. Moreover, the general public is looking for products able to treat skin conditions and wants to use cosmetics with a scientific guarantee.
Thus, brands are strengthening their medical approach in order to meet the needs of their targets.
