Every year, Bonial (a company that helps consumers hunt for bargains) works with the Ipsos polling institute to produce a barometer of the commercial attractiveness of major retail chains. Yves Rocher tops the podium in the hygiene/beauty category.
A sample of 10,000 French respondents was selected for the study.
Interviews were conducted from September 23 to October 8, 2024.
Panelists were asked which of the 16 sectors included in the survey they were likely to shop in over the next 12 months.
General findings
“The French have high expectations of their supermarket chains, particularly given the recent inflationary context,” explains Ipsos. *While 86% of respondents consider that retailers have a role to play in protecting their purchasing power, one French person in two believes that retailers contribute to this by offering attractive prices. 38% of respondents also believe that supermarkets act in accordance with their values and convictions.
For the vast majority of French people, physical retailing is indispensable to their daily lives. In fact, 70% believe that stores are more useful than the Internet for making purchases. “We also note that the senior population is more attached to physical outlets than the younger population,” adds Ipsos.
