Environmental responsibility: an increasingly important issue for the French

Responsabilité environnementale : un sujet qui gagne de l'importance pour les Français

In the past, environmental issues were not at the centre of conversations, but this is no longer the case. According to a recent IFOP poll for the Giverny summit, the general public is increasingly aware of the need to protect biodiversity.

This barometer surveyed a sample of 1,000 people. The interviews took place between 4 and 5 September 2024.

For the French, environmental protection is everyone’s business, including that of manufacturers.
70% of panellists think that companies (food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc.) should fund projects to help combat the climate crisis, even if this has nothing to do with their core business.
What’s more, 87% of respondents believe that the elected members of the CSE (company social and economic committee) should be trained in environmental issues.

What’s more, 77% were in favour of creating a “CarboScore” index (based on the NutriScore model) to give users greater transparency about the energy consumption of their products and services and the commitment of the manufacturers concerned.

They also think it would be a good idea to require advertising agencies to have compulsory time slots dedicated to promoting products with a positive impact on the environment.
But the French also feel that individuals should be made more aware of the climate issue. 78% of those polled think that sustainable development should be a compulsory subject in all vocational and higher education courses.
