They may not have fully entered the workforce yet, but young Americans have significant spending power (pocket money or student jobs). And to better track their spending habits, the investment bank Piper Sandler conducted a study with a sample of 14,500 teenagers living in the United States.
The survey was conducted online between August 12 and September 23, 2022.
The average age of the young people surveyed was 15 years old. The panel is 52% female, 46% male, and 2% non-binary.
39% of study participants have part-time jobs.
American women spend more than boys. Unlike them, they allocate more budget to buying clothes and shoes. Teenagers are also experiencing inflation. More and more, they are turning to low-cost stores to do their shopping.
