Is CSR important for young graduates?

Today, CSR is an essential component of our corporate culture. And it’s also a factor in attracting new recruits. For the past three years, Universum (a company specializing in employer branding) has been surveying students and recent graduates to better understand their perception of CSR, and their expectations in relation to corporate commitments.

To produce its 2023 index, Universum questioned 1,215 people between September and December 2023,

When looking for a job, 56% of respondents pay attention to the social commitments of the company they are applying to. A further 45% were interested in the company’s economic performance and 28% in its environmental initiatives.

In the ranking of the five priority commitments for respondents, we find:
• Well-being in the workplace
• Respect for people
• Gender equality
• Ethical business practices
• Product or service quality

“They make sure that it is the employer who guarantees both physical and moral safety, and does not discriminate between men and women,” analyzes Universum. “However, two economic issues make it into the top 5. But what respondents are really looking for is whether the company they are thinking of joining treats its employees well.”

Some environmental criteria (waste management and the transformation of the business model to limit its impact on the planet) have disappeared from this year’s ranking.

“The credibility of companies in terms of CSR is improving year on year: 41% of those surveyed now believe that employers are truly committed (versus 28% in 2021),” says Universum. “While almost all companies …
