To boost store traffic, it’s important to know what customers want. What changes would consumers like to see in their stores? This is the question answered by the latest OpinionWay study for Retail Tech.
To carry out this survey, 1009 French people were interviewed between January 24 and 25, 2024.
Main results
Respondents (53%) believe their purchasing power will decline in 2024.
So, to motivate consumers to go to the store and spend their money, panellists would like retailers to offer:
• More promotions
• Loyalty programs
• Destocking products
• First-price products
• More private labels (brand name)
• More bulk products
• More sales periods and private sales
• More family-size products, to build up stock
Apart from the financial aspect, respondents would like to have:
• Less waiting at the checkout
• Fewer out-of-stock products on the shelves
• The opportunity to test products before buying them
• Stores that are more respectful of the environment
• Cleaner spaces
• More available sales advisors
• Tidier stores
• Extended opening hours
• More parking spaces
• Better atmosphere in stores (lighting, temperature, music, etc.)
• More links between stores and e-commerce (drive, click and collect…)
