On the occasion of Cosme Week in Tokyo, which took place on January 10 and 11, 2023, Mintel, a forecasting agency, presented the new trends that are likely to impact the Chinese cosmetics industry. According to the agency, consumers are showing an increasing appetite for local brands and for products with clean INCI lists.
According to Mintel, three major trends are emerging.
The era of the clean
Long shunned by the Chinese, local brands are increasingly popular, as they have become more effective. “Consumers recognize that professionals have made progress in product formulation.”
More and more manufacturers have strict charters and communicate on them.
The environmental aspect is also important.
National pride
Young Chinese consumers are increasingly interested in incorporating traditional Chinese culture and style into national brands and products.
“By exploring more local ingredients and cultural components, Chinese brands have the ability to compete with multinationals,” says Mintel.
The quest for healthy skin
Chinese women are concerned about the condition of their skin. They are looking for skin care products that protect their skin barrier and respect their microbiome.
But this “care” trend also concerns hair products and make-up.
