Sun protection: men are (still) lagging behind!

At the dawn of spring, the FEBEA unveils the figures from its annual barometer on “French sun protection habits”, conducted in partnership with OpinionWay. The results of the 2024 edition show a certain understanding on the part of consumers of the dangers of prolonged exposure… but a still insufficient use of cream, especially among young people and men.

The survey was conducted between February 14 and 15, 2024. For the occasion, 1001 French people were interviewed.

According to the FEBEA, “although nine out of ten French people think it’s essential to protect themselves from UV radiation with suitable products, the extent to which they do so varies according to where they are exposed to the sun, as well as their sex and age.”

When at the beach or pool, 83% of respondents confirm that they protect themselves from the sun. “But they are not very rigorous, with only 43% repeating this gesture every two hours or more. And 16% (3 points less than in 2021) say they never protect themselves, a rate that rises to 21% among men,” adds the FEBEA.

On the other hand, when they are sitting on a terrace or in a garden, only 69% of them apply suncare at least once a day in the event of long exposure. “30% of French people (including 36% of men) never protect themselves (up 10 points on 2021). In all, 39% of respondents feel they can do without cream because ‘they don’t really need it’, a rate that rises to 46% among men and young people aged …
