The importance of cosmetics for patients

L'importance de la cosmétique pour les femmes malades

For several years, the Belle & Bien association has been offering socio-aesthetic treatments to help women with cancer improve their quality of life and cope better with the side effects of treatment. Ahead of World Cancer Day (February 4, 2024), Belle & Bien and the FEBEA presented the results of a study that objectifies the benefits on the well-being of patients who benefit from socio-aesthetic treatments.

This survey was carried out between September 2022 and June 2023 among 338 women who had taken part in a Belle & Bien workshop or class.

First findings

93.6% of respondents said that using skincare and/or make-up products had a positive impact on their self-esteem. Having attended a Belle & Bien workshop helped 76.7% of women to improve their well-being, and 23.3% said they felt more confident.

“After taking part, 90% of beneficiaries developed a new beauty routine. The daily use of cosmetics increased considerably,” adds FEBEA.

Illness: an invisible aggressor

For most patients, the irruption of illness into their lives is hard to cope with. “They described a certain amount of wandering before being able to recognize themselves as ‘ill’. What’s more, the body is experienced as a vector of suffering and ‘disquieting strangeness’, with a loss of control. This leads to a kind of passivity, in the face of the pathology itself, but also in the face of treatment.”
