Capsule sera

© L'Observatoire des Cosmétiques

These single-dose drops containing pure and precious elixirs (always nourishing) reappear in many cosmetic brands. Very practical with the approach of the great summer transhumances, these nomadic facial treatments par excellence will also seduce those who always hesitate on the dose to apply.

Reading time
~ 3 minutes

You turn the tip of the mouthpiece, it breaks naturally. A generous drop of a nutritive serum often very pure (most of the time, it is devoid of preservatives and contains few chemical additives) which is sufficient for the whole face and neck. Capsule serums, not to be confused with"beauty pearls" or microfluidics (see on this subject the Zoom The new pearls of cosmetics and the Zoom The charm of cosmetic pearls ), are packaged in jars containing 28 to 60 capsules, the equivalent of one or two months of care. The capsules, which look more like drops, preserve the quintessence of active ingredients, most often nutritive (vegetable oils, ceramides…). The serum is perfectly protected from its shell of marine or vegetable gelatin (cellulose based).

From evening primrose capsules to cosmetic capsules

Initially it was evening primrose capsules, well known to women to alleviate premenstrual disorders and treat dry skin, that gave birth to them. In all logic, the Onagrine brand, specialist in evening primrose (acquired by the Noreva group in 2013) offers, in its new anti-aging line, its Intensive Anti-Aging Serum Global Expertise (30 capsules, 54 €), highly dosed with evening primrose, musk rose, jojoba and sphingolipid extracts, which nourish, revitalize and illuminate the complexion. According to the brand this" unique concentrate is a true source of vital energy for stem cells boosting the production of supporting fibers ".

In turn, Elisabeth Arden launches Ceramides Daily Renewing Youth Serum Capsules (60 capsules, €77.50; 45 capsule refill: €54.90), a light serum with a soft, silky finish, enriched with ceramides, that smoothes, nourishes, firms and improves the complexion's uniformity and radiance. The brand also offers it in eye contour care (Ceramide Capsules Daily Eye Contour Serum Elisabeth Arden, 60 capsules, 57.90 €), an idea that seems interesting because these capsules have many advantages for this fragile and intolerant area!

Last serums capsules to date, those of Phyt's and The Body Shop. The first, certified organic, is part of an oxygenating radiance range (Reviderm Evening Care Serum regenerating Phyt's, 40 capsules, 29 €). This serum gives pride of place to the chlorophyll of organic vegetable oils (hemp, hazelnut, wheat germ, sunflower, cypress, sage, natural vitamin E) to target the first signs of aging and awaken the radiance of dull or polluted skin. The capsules here consist of seaweed and corn extracts.

The second highlights pure vitamin C to give radiance, even the complexion and protect the skin from daily aggressions (Capsules éclat Vitamine C The Body Shop, 28 capsules, 23 €).
