Very fruity… slimming products!

© CosmeticOBS-L'Observatoire des Cosmétiques

Apples, pears, citrus fruit… though more exactly grapefruit, here. But you can also find mangosteen, quince, blackcurrant, litchi… Is this the end of almighty caffeine? Absolutely not! It is still here, only it is surrounded by fruit to renew the specialty and take advantage of their appetizing image. Why not combine slimming products with pleasure? Dietary, my dear Watson!

There are few major innovations this spring in the slimming category, except for Garancia and its crackling texture (Fée Moi Fondre, 400ml, €35.35), which actually contains, among others, not fruit, but a vegetable (an extract from detoxifying beetroot)!
We can also mention He-Shi’s Body Sculpting Gradual Tan (150ml, €23), a 3-in-1 product which combines a progressive self-tanner and slimming and firming ingredients. The oil texture is getting more common (there was already a wide offering last year), but what is real new is the arrival of fruit – citrus fruit ahead – in formulas.
Is that aimed to rob a bit of their pulpiness and roundness? In any case, they provide slimming formulas with more femininity and sensuality.

Grapefruit, king of slimness 2017!

It can be found as a plant extract or essential oil in most new slimming products, associated with other toning citrus fruit like orange in the Boost & Tonic Gel Minceur Suractivé, Anti-Cellulite & Ultra-Fermeté by Linéance (anti-cellulite, firming & slimming gel loaded with actives, 180ml, €14.90), which has just been launched.
Aptly-named Grapefruit Slimming Serum by Dr Renaud (150ml, €38) also contains an organic grapefruit extract, as well as caffeine and an extract from Coleus (a plant from India), rich in forskolin, one of the most powerful lipolytic agents. The brand tells us the richness in flavonoids and terpenes of this organic grapefruit extract provides it with an anti-inflammatory action. ‘In the extracellular matrix, it soothes the sensation of tissue inflammation (heaviness, discomfort, irritations) and inhibits more than 50% of the action of one of the enzymes involved in the inflammation process.’
In addition, grapefruit essential oil can be found in the Libérez l’orange, Lotion Minceur by Indemne (Slimming Lotion, 100ml, €27.85), together with a massage suction pad (Big Bubble-In, €24.95), or associated with lemon, fennel, juniper, or wintergreen essential oils in the Puressentiel Huile Sèche Minceur (Slimming Dry Oil) with 18 essential oils (100ml, €20), or the Huile de Soin Bio Minceur 40+ Pamplemousse Jojoba (Jojoba & Grapefruit Organic Slimming Skincare Oil), which is both draining and firming (100ml, €18). The brand even offers the complex of 18 essential oils in a Huile de Soin Lavante (Cleansing Skincare Oil, 200ml, €15).

And grapefruit in general…

Other types of citrus fruit, like lemon, were integrated to the Le Petit Marseillais Huile Tonifiante Anti-Cellulite (Anti-Cellulite Toning Oil, 150ml, €9.90), or the Garnier Body Tonic Lait Hydratant Raffermissant Citron tonique et Café vert (Green Coffee & Lemon Firming & Moisturizing Milk, 250ml, €4.20).

Somatoline Cosmetic also uses it, with lime, sweet orange, and bitter orange essential oils (fat-burning), peppermint and green mint (lipolytic and microcirculation-enhancing), cypress, lemon grass, and lemon (draining), in a formula based on argan and jojoba oils to slim down and tone the figure (gas-free Use & Go Spray Slimming Oil, 125ml, €35.90).

Tutti frutti dolci…

As an anti-glycation agent, litchi is also contained in the Grapefruit Slimming Serum by Dr Renaud. Obtained with an innovative, eco-friendly subcritical water technology, this extract is rich in Geraniin (polyphenol), a molecular ‘softening’ agent which helps ‘uncurl’ the collagen stuck by the accumulation of glucose. Then, the fibrous collagen found in type 3 cellulite gets bioavailable again to firm the skin up.
The extract from mangosteen , a delicious exotic fruit rich in antioxidant polyphenols (including xanthone), is the star of the two spring slimming
products by Yves Rocher: Anti-Cellulite Daily Moisturizer (200ml ecotube, €24, introductory price €12.90), and Global Slimming, Slimming & Firming
Serum (150ml, €29, introductory price €14.90). Thanks to a 100% natural extraction process, the Botanical Beauty® brand managed to develop an extract particularly concentrated in xanthones (average content: 48%), which revives the fat storage/release by activating a specific receptor in the nucleus of adipocytes. The efficacy of this extract was demonstrated in vitro on the triglycerides synthesis, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The Red vine extract, combined with other lipolytic actives, acts during all cellulite formation phases to visibly reduce its aspect and prevent its return, in Intraderm Cellulite Sérum Lissant Anti-Cellulite by Mary Cohr (Anti-Cellulite Smoothing Serum, 125ml, €45, as from April).

The blackcurrant extract, associated with pure pink berry oil, drains and softens nodes of fat overnight in Linéance’s Profiler Nuit + (180ml, €14.90). This oil – nicknamed ‘pink gold’ – smooths the orange peel effect, together with regenerating sea-buckthorn berry oil and organic black pepper oil to stimulate blood circulation in L’Or Rose Firming Oil with pink berries by Melvita (100ml, €29).
As for quince , used by Clarins (actually quince tree leaves), it increases the expression of the gene responsible for fat-burning threefold (Body Lift, Cellulite Control, 200ml, €54).
Let us finish with appetizing almond in the L’Occitane Concentré de Finesse Amande (Almond Slimming Concentrate, 200ml, €48). It is actually a new active patented by the company from Provence: pressed almond with firming and reshaping properties… and a delicious perfume.
