Already important, online commerce has become unavoidable since the beginning of the health crisis. But like all distribution channels, it faces challenges and must adapt to the ever-changing needs of the general public. Euromonitor, a forecasting firm, has identified the key trends to watch for all brands that sell their products online.

Today, Euromonitor estimates that 60% of the world’s population uses the Internet.
“89% of manufacturers expect citizens to judge their companies on their digital performance.”

Always more personalization
According to the forecasting firm, it is important to offer Internet users a personalized shopping experience. This contributes to loyalty.
They want to be assisted in case of problems, the interface to be fluid and shopping to be easy.

Timed delivery
Consumers don’t want to wait anymore. They are used to being able to order a product at their fingertips and they expect to receive it (almost) as fast. Beware of delays! 42% of Internet users have a very negative view of longer delivery times.

To meet this challenge, some retailers are testing several services such as:
• Collaboration with fast delivery companies (often specialized in food delivery)
• Implementation of Click&Collect
• Possibility to pick up an order in places other than the store

According to Euromonitor, the transition to fast delivery is inevitable. And for the skeptics, the forecasting firm explains that this service is one more argument to bring the general public to consume impulsively and less thoughtfully than in store.
