French e-consumer buying habits

Les habitudes d'achat des e-consommateurs français

For many people, Internet shopping is part of their daily routine. And just like those who go to the stores, they have developed habits and automatisms. Manutan, the European supplier of products and services to businesses, commissioned IFOP to carry out a study to gain a better understanding of consumer behavior.

1,000 French people were surveyed between February 27 and March 8, 2023. 56% of respondents said they were regular Internet shoppers (at least once a month). Only 27% place orders once a quarter.

As a general rule, they continue to visit the same sites (63%) and make sure that the level of security and reliability is optimal (46%).
They also refer to reviews left by other Internet users (27%), which they see as a sign of trust.

For a long time, Internet commerce was praised for its convenience. Now, the general public wants more.
For them, the most important point is delivery time (49%).
Being able to return the product easily in the event of non-conformity is also crucial (40%).

Environmental awareness

Do Internet users care about the planet?
Only 26% say they pay attention to their impact on the environment when shopping online.

And to behave in a sustainable way, the French try to find out where products come from (55%) and group their deliveries (55%).
On the other hand, only 23% ask about the carbon impact of delivery.
