Refillable cosmetics seduce the British

La cosmétique rechargeable séduit les Britanniques

According to The NPD Group, sales of refillable prestige beauty products grew 47% in the UK between January and the end of July 2022. Valued at 34 million pounds during this seven-month period, this market performed better than the entire prestige cosmetics segment.

While the refillable fragrance offering is still a bit small compared to other categories, it accounts for 5% of “refill” sales.
According to The NPD, the increase in sales of this type of product shows that it is a strong trend in perfumery. In fact, major brands such as Viktor & Rolf, Diesel and Prada have just passed the refill mark with their new products.

Make-up is the category with the best score with 30% of sales.
A little more than half of these results can be attributed to lipstick. Blush and eyeshadow follow.

“Consumers are increasingly sensitive to the environmental cause. And sales of prestige refillable beauty products have increased accordingly. While purchasing this type of skincare is becoming commonplace, there is still a long way to go. What we see here really marks the beginning of the refillable beauty story, as only a small percentage of makeup products sold are currently refillable. The situation is similar for skincare and hair products,” comments Emma Fishwick, Account Manager, NPD UK Beauty.
