Ethoxylation

Chemical reaction by which an oxide of ethylene is bonded to non-polar molecules (like fatty-acids) to make these last more water soluble. This process makes the raw materials (ethoxyls) less aggressive to the skin, but it is blamed for its environmental consequences.
