Elegant and so French, Bordeaux is really the cosmetic colour of the season. On lips and nails. But he is also making a remarkable entrance this winter in eye make-up.

French wine dresses definitely inspire make-up artists! And the phenomenon affects all distribution channels, from the most luxurious to the most popular. The burgundy colour in make-up, especially for lips and nails, is a winner. Whether it draws on brown (the famous Marsala shade elected by Pantone"color of the year 2015") or plum (bluish burgundy, with inflexions lie-de-vin), burgundy is the new red!

Great vintage shades on the lips

Cure of grape for Chanel which proposes several bordeaux pulling on the brown : Red Coco Shine 112 Téméraire, Collection Les Automnales Chanel, 31 €; Red Double Intensity Plum Desire ,  32,50 €. This last is composed of a liquid lipstick which dresses the lips of an intense shade, and of a transparent gloss ultra gloss.

Other hot burgundies: Barocco Lipstick 620 Mavala Melodic Collection (14,65 €), Rouge Éclat 22 Red Paprika Clarins (24,80 €), Le Rouge Givenchy 318 Rouge Acajou Vinyl Collection Givenchy (34 €), Ecstasy Lacquer N° 201 Giorgio Armani (33,50 €), Rouge Volupté Shine 36 Rouge In Rock, Collection Pretty Metal Yves Saint Laurent (33 €), Rouge Dior 813 5th Avenue or 753 Continental (39,50 €, limited editions). Or Clinique's Intense Red Pop Cola Pop (23 €, from November), a long-lasting lipstick with a velvety finish and a smoothing base.

Among the cold burgundies, pulling on plum or purple (about to become the new nude reds of matte or ethnic skins) : - Red Edition Velvet 08 Grand Cru or 14 Plum Plum Girl de Bourjois (13,90 €), - Rouge Pur Couture 205 Prune Virgin by Yves Saint Laurent (29,90 €), - the new Dior Addict Lipstick 967 Gotha by Dior with a hydra-gel heart and a mirror shine (36 €), - Color Sensational Creamy Mattes 975 Divine Wine Lipstick by Gemey-Maybelline (10,60 €), - the big pencil Jumbo Lèvres Pourpre Exquis, Collection Les Exquis de T.Leclerc (18,50 €), - the Pure Color Envy Shine Red Fluid Emotional Estée Lauder (31 €), Red In Love 292N Chez Prune de Lancôme (27,40 €).

The dark, almost black reds, initiated by Chanel (her famous Rouge Noir varnish celebrates her 20th birthday with a whole make-up collection revolving around this colour for Christmas) give birth to Rouge Allure 109 Rouge Noir, as well as Rouge Allure Velvet 347 La Merveilleuse (32.50 € each, Rouge Noir Absolument Noël 2015 Collection, in November). Dior also offers several in the same spirit: Rouge Dior 956 Unique (39.50 €), Dior Addict Lipstick 987 Black Tie or 612 City Lights, with a glitter effect (36 €), or Dior Addict Fluid Stick 975 Midnight or 869 Vie d'Enfer (36 €).

Such a chic color on the nails

The nails are not left behind with dark burgundy, garnet, deep ruby or chestnut varnishes… which sophisticated the hands, give them a theatrical side a little"drama". The detail of autumn 2015: intense, shimmering lacquers and gel formulas that give nails a perfect curve.

Really burgundy: - Varnish 50 Bordeaux Essie (13,5 ml, 11,90 €), - Vernis Amore at The Grand Canal, Collection Venise O.P.I (15 ml, 13,90 €), - Nail Polish Honey or Plum Kure Bazaar (10 ml, 16 €), - Varnish Gel 1 Second 46 Berry Important Person Bourjois (9 ml, 9,99 €).

This one evokes black cherry: Vernis Tenue & Strong Pro Tone on Tone 879 Hot Hue Gemey-Maybelline (10 ml, 7.60 €).

These rather recall the amber inflections of Pomerol : - Varnish 669 Chanel Chestnut (13 ml, 23,50 €), - Mystic Carmin mini nail polish by Peggy Sage (11 ml, 7,50 €), - Le Vernis Givenchy 28 Rouge Acajou, Vinyl Collection (10 ml, 22,50 €, limited edition), - Varnish 81 Buenos Aires, Symphonic Collection Mavala (5 ml, 5,60 €), - Color Riche Le Vernis N°172 Marsala Palace, Collection Groovy 70's L'Oréal Paris (5 ml, 5,80 €).

A sharp trend for the holidays: the burgundy look

The burgundy make-up for the eyes is of course the most pointed trend, that's why we only find it in Selective, in the most creative make-up collections, like Chanel who throws a silky cream shadow in this shade (Illusion d'Ombre 857 Rouge Noir, 30,50 €), a kohl pencil (Le Crayon Khôl 17 Rouge Noir, 21,50 €), and even an almost black mascara which brings an intriguing reflection on the lashes (Le Volume de Chanel Mascara 27 Rouge Noir ,  31,50 €, Collection Rouge Noir Absolument Noël).

Other examples include the new Metallic Reflection Palette Must Have by Givenchy, four shadows for the eyes (one is matt, the other three have metallic reflections) that will bring radiance to the cold season (52.50 € - Vinyl Collection Autumn-Winter 2015).

Or the Dazzleshadow Can't Stop, Don't Stop (a dark glittery plum) or Boom Boom Room (a red glittery burgundy) eye shadows by M.A.C Cosmetics (23 €, Disko Collection, in November).
